xWe present a case report of a 14-year-old boy who was jumping on a trampoline when he struck his right mastoid on a support pole. The following day, he developed a right-sided facial droop and inability to close his right eye. He presented to the emergency department, where CT of his temporal bone was negative and he was started on prednisone. Over the next month, he had spontaneous recovery of his facial nerve (FN) function. In cases of traumatic FN palsy, urgent referral to otolaryngology is needed, even without a fracture of the temporal bone, as edema within the facial nerve could require decompressive surgery.

xTo compare historical features, clinical examination findings, and radiographic results among pediatric patients with cervical spine injury (CSI), a retrospective review of patients who were diagnosed with CSI was undertaken. Two main groups were identified: radiographically evident cervical spine injury (RESCI), and spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality (SCIWORA). Demographic, historical, clinical, and radiographic information was obtained from patients' charts and analyzed to determine factors associated with CSI and to determine the efficacy of the various radiographic views.

xUpper limb fractures are common but critical injuries in pediatric emergency care. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential to achieve a favorable functional prognosis. The pucker sign, a puckering or dimpling of the skin associated with a subcutaneous hematoma, results from a bone fracture in the extremities [1]. The sign is commonly found among children with severely displaced epicondyle humeral fractures in the anterior portion of the distal arm and indicates that the proximal fragment of a fractured and displaced humerus has penetrated the brachialis muscle and dermal layer [2].

xCardiac arrest management primarily focuses on optimal chest compressions and early defibrillation for shockable cardiac rhythms. Non-shockable rhythms such as pulseless electrical activity (PEA) and asystole present challenges in management. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in cardiac arrest is promising.

xPericardial tamponade is neither a clinical nor an echocardiographic diagnosis alone. The echocardiogram carries diagnostic value and should be performed when there is suspicion for tamponade based on the history and physical exam. A pericardial effusion uncovered on point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) may be mistaken for tamponade and thereby lead to inappropriate and invasive management with pericardiocentesis.
