Much attention in the popular press to “recent phenomenon” among adolescents and young adults using “tampons soaked in vodka” vaginally or rectally as clandestine means of administration [1,2]. It is unclear if this is a clinical concern for intoxication. At minimum, this is a “dare” practice in this group. The search term vodka-soaked tampons on YouTube (San Bruno, CA) search generated 735 results, many are videos of attempts of this unsafe practice [3]. We performed an in vitro experiment to assess volume of ethanol tampons absorbed using vodka.
